Mallabracka just three miles North of Dunmanway,is the birthplace of Sam Maguire(After whom the GAA All-Ireland football cup is named)
As a young man he emigrated to London:he was a true patriot and an outstanding footballer.He represented London-Irish in the All-Ireland Finals of
1901,1902 and 1903.His devotion of Gaelic Games was unbounded and he held many official positions in the London GAA organisation. The Sam Maguire
Cup is presented annually to the winners of All-Ireland Football Final-It is every countys ambition to ''bring Sam home''.
He is buried in the family plot in St.Marys Churchyard in Dunmanway,and a Celtic Cross subscribed by the people of his own Parish marks the spot.
